about the
Broome to
Darwin Trip
Travel along the Great Northern Highway. Visit Geikie Gorge, Emma Gorge and spend some time kayaking in Lake Argyle. Or you could just relax in the infinity pool overlooking the lake or go for a swim in the lake itself.
After the Kimberley, you’ll travel into the Northern Territory to see some famous gorges, national parks, and the mini Bungle Bungles. You’ll find some incredible waterfalls inside Litchfield National Park and Kakadu – as well as some aboriginal art. Perhaps you’ll also see some interesting Aussie wildlife (and spot a crocodile or two in Kakadu).
Finally, cruise into Darwin to enjoy a beer and sunset to celebrate the end of the trip!
Expect to get fit with lots of hiking, snorkelling and exercise as you appreciate the natural sights. This is a no-frills adventure – you’ll be setting up your own tents, cooking your own dinner and sharing your tent with one or two other people. The target age group is 18-35.

our recommended itinerary
The Great Northern Highway and Geikie Gorge
Make your way north along the Great Northern Highway. Make sure to stop off at Geikie Gorge – which is very close to the highway – to spend a few hours by the water, relaxing or exploring.
When you are ready, make your way to Ngunam Cliff Rest Area to set up camp for the night.
Wyndham, The Grotto, Emma Gorge
Make a stop at Mary Pool as you head towards Wyndham. Stay near Wyndham overnight, then visit the Grotto in the morning, a nice small natural waterhole, ideal for swimming and relaxing.
Make sure you save most of the day for Emma Gorge which is a beautiful spot.
Lake Argyle
Stop by Kununurra to restock supplies, then kayak on the stunning Lake Argyle. The water is warm and blue, surrounded by striking red mountains.
Make sure to head up to the caravan park to see the infinity pool overlooking the lake. Camp nearby, or head over the border and camp in Keep River National Park overnight (so you can see the mini bungle bungles in the morning!).
Judburr and Gregory Tree National Park
You’re in the Victoria River Region. And now, you might want to start looking out for crocodiles – so don’t stay too close to the river!
Visit the Gregory Tree and camp overnight before heading to the next destination.
Mataranka Hot Springs
Visit Mataranka to explore its lovely hot springs. Nearby, you’ll find the even more stunning Bitter Springs. Elsey National Park is nearby if you feel like a walk.
Katherine and Nitmiluk National Park
Nitmiluk National Park is the real attraction. You can go bushwalking, swimming, and canoeing (although canoeing is very expensive).
Butterfly Gorge is recommended. You can also check out Edith Falls. We recommend camping nearby the night before, so you can start your hike early and avoid the heat of the day.
Kakadu National Park
Visit the famous Kakadu National Park. There are many gorges to see, some great lookouts, wetlands, and a town within the park.
Make sure to visit the Aboriginal art and spot some crocs at Cahills Crossing. On day 11 leave the park and camp in or near to Litchfield to take full advantage of the next day.
