Jurien Bay weekend trip

In Perth and only have a few days off? Introducing our weekend trips! Meet other backpackers living and working in Perth, enjoy a 4 day weekend away (Friday to Monday) and get a taste of a Share Bus trip. You’ll spend most of your time in Jurien Bay, camping and playing games at the beach. However you can also sandboard Lancelin on the way up, swim with sea lions, and check out the alien-like Pinnacles on the way back.

How it works

We’re not a tour – we’re a shared rental! That means it works a little differently. The people joining the trip share the driving, camping, trip planning and experience. This way of travelling offers a more flexible and self-guided trip. It’s also more affordable than a tour. However, you get everything you could need for a camping road trip plus an awesome group of travel mates!

About the route

You have 4 beautiful days (3 nights) to enjoy camping in or near Jurien Bay; starting from and returning to Perth.

To reach Jurien Bay you’ll travel a few hours up the coast. We suggest stopping in Lancelin to try sandboarding on the way! It’s an excellent ice-breaker ;).

Set up camp at our recommended Jurien beach camp and take advantage of our games gear and play some Aussie backyard cricket, or beach soccer. We have snorkels as well if you’re more interested in exploring the sea!

Its possible to swim with sea lions in Jurien, so you should definitely plan that in during your weekend. Once you’ve explored your camp you can also check out other beaches in the area. There is an excellent spot a little bit further north called Dynamite Bay; where you can enjoy a beach BBQ. On the last day of your weekend away, pass by the Pinnacles on your way back to Perth.

This is a no-frills adventure – you’ll be setting up your own tents, cooking your own dinner and sharing your tent with one or two other people. The target age group is 18-35. You’ll camp at the same location all 3 nights of this trip – so you’ll only need to set up camp once!

Things to note

Please note this is a minibus rental, not a guided tour. The group share the rental of a minibus, trailer and camping equipment. You essentially ‘rent your seat’ on the minibus!

We provide a recommended itinerary to help you. This includes recommendations for different places, camps and activities (like beaches, snorkel spots and hikes!). We also teach you how to use the equipment before you leave, teach you how to attach, detach and pack the trailer. We also remain fully contactable during your trip for any questions.

You will rent your seat as either a ‘driver’ or ‘non-driver’. If you choose non-driver you must never drive. Drivers can share driving and must be aged 21+. The minibus seats 12, and anyone with a regular driver’s license can drive it.

Please bring your own water bottle and sleeping bag. However, limit your luggage to about 20kg – 1 big bag, and one day bag/small backpack. The trailer is full of all the camping equipment you need and has space for your bags. Be prepared to free camp at least half the time!

Recommended itinerary

This is a summary of the recommended itinerary we provide you; and the places we think are great for a Perth to Broome road trip! However, feel free to change this as you wish with your trip mates! Stay longer, shorter, add or skips places etc.

Day 01: Lancelin and Jurien Bay

Meet your travel mates and take your first steps on your road trip. Pass by Lancelin on your way up to Jurien to play on giant sand dunes and go sandboarding, kayaking or swimming. Get into Jurien, set up your tents and enjoy some games, drinks and then sunset on the beach.

Day 02/03: Jurien Bay and Greenhead

Enjoy your time beachside and explore the area. We have plenty of beach games and snorkels so you can fully enjoy the area. However, Jurien Bay is famous for being able to swim with sea lions – so try to book that in while you’re there!

Once you feel you’ve spent enough time at the beaches in Jurien you can detour 30 minutes North to Greenhead and see “Australia’s 19th best beach” called Dynamite Bay, and enjoy a beach BBQ there.

Day 04: Jurien, Pinnacles/Cervantes, Perth

Take a final swim in the water, pack up your tent and slowly make your way to Perth. We recommend you stop by the Pinnacles to check out the famous alien-like scenery and take a few funny photos. Then head in to Perth and celebrate the end of your trip together.
