Adelaide to Melbourne (+ Kangaroo Island)
Jump on the Share Bus from Adelaide to Melbourne and see incredible wildlife and iconic Great Ocean Road with a bunch of other backpackers. This trip is for 10 days, and 9 nights; and the Kangaroo Island ferry is included!
The destination is set, but the route is not – take control of your own adventure! Explore the nature of Kangaroo Island, untouched by introduced species it is abundant with wildlife such as the New Zealand fur seal, sea lions, kangaroos and koalas.
Surf, swim, kayak and hike throughout the nature. We also have snorkeling equipment you can take advantage of. Then we head back to the mainland to enjoy some wine and national parks and snorkeling. Heading east you’ll also get to see other natural wonders such as the volcanic area of Mount Gambier and the Grampians to see magnificent waterfalls and mountains and spot some wildlife. Finally, you’ll roadtrip the wonders of the Great Ocean Road, arriving in Melbourne to celebrate with your new road trip family.
Expect to get fit with lots of hiking, snorkeling and exercise as you appreciate the natural sights. This is a no-frills adventure – you’ll be setting up your own tents, sharing the driving, cooking your own dinner and sharing your tent with other 1 or 2 travellers. The target age group is 18-35.
Things to note Please note this is a minibus rental, not a guided tour. You rent a seat on the bus. We provide a recommended itinerary to help guide you. You are all sharing the driving, cooking and trip planning (but you have a comprehensive guidebook to help) You will rent your seat as either a ‘driver’ or ‘non-driver’. Non-drivers must never drive. Drivers can share driving and must be aged 21+ Once you book you will be given a full guide with free activities, paid activities, recommended campsites to visit, as well as recommended sights to see. Please bring your own water bottle, sunscreen and torch. Be prepared for the tough weather! Please limit luggage to 20kg and two bags.

Recommended itineraryDay 01: Fleurieu Peninsula Meet your bus mates, do a big food shop then head South of Adelaide to explore the Fleurieu Peninsula! You can go to the McClaren Vale wine region for a few tastings if you like, and chill out at the nearby river or snorkel at nearby Port Noarlunga. Otherwise, head straight to Second Valley Beach – voted one of the top 10 Australian beaches. In the afternoon take the fge Day 02: Kangaroo Island Go to Cape Jervis to catch the ferry to Kangaroo Island. Once in Kangaroo Island, we suggest picking a nice beach to have lunch at and then heading to Vivonne Bay. There is a lot to do in the area. Vivonne Bay is good swimming spot and you can also hire a sandboard to surf some large dunes nearby. Seal Bay Conservation area is nearby, which you can go look at to see seals! You can also hire a kayak to kayak on the Harriet River for up to 4 hours – the start point is only a 5 minute drive away Day 03: Kangaroo Island We suggest spending the morning in Vivonne bay doing whatever you didn’t manage to do the day before (kayaking/seals etc). Then we suggest heading North to check out Stokes Bay, which is another really nice beach with a rockpool. Then, to the east, you can visit the Emu Bay region and eventually visit the main township on the island “Kingscote”. Kangaroo Island has notable food and wine and you might be able to try some of it in town. Day 04: Kangaroo Island Time to explore the Dudley Peninsula. Stop at Brown beach on the way over, and then explore Antechamber Bay and the nearby Cape Willoughby lighthouse. Dudley Peninsula In the afternoon jump on a ferry back to the mainland and set up camp on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Day 05: Coorong National Park >/p> Drive along the salt lakes of the Coorong, taking thr route via Goolwa. Boating kayaking, fishing walking are all available here. You could hire a kayak at the mouth of the Murray River. If you do a lot of driving you can make your way to the seaside town of Robe, otherwise camp near the Coorong lakes Day 06: Mount Gambier Spend a day at Mount Gambier, a volcanic town. See Blue Lake, Umpherston Sink hole, Cave Gardens and Tantanoola Caves Conservation Park where you can go cave diving Day 07/08: Grampians National Park Visit Grampians National Park – Visit to see waterfalls, wildlife and mountains and go hiking. It’s known for its sandstone mountains, wildflowers and wildlife including echidnas and wallabies. You can find out about aboriginal history here as well Day 09: Great Ocean Road Get up early to drive to Port Fairy – the start of the great Ocean Road. Stop at Warnambool to get info. Perhaps go as far as the 12 Apostles or Cape Otway. Stop at the famous sights including 12 Apostles, the razorback, the grotto, loch ard gorge and London Bridge Day 10: Great Ocean Road From the Twelve Apostlles there’s only 4 hours of driving but a lot to see! (from Cape Otway 3.5 hours). Visit Cape Otway, Apollo Bay, Erskine Falls and Lorne. Arrive in Melbourne by night |
